Velum
Franziska Ruh
Velum is a glass curtain that combines the soft look of textile curtains with the static character of leaded glass windows. When light falls through the framed stained glass elements, colorful reflections illuminate the room. This effect ensures that the viewer is directly involved in the atmospheric effect of the curtain. Here, in addition to visual stimuli, one’s own body sensation and haptic perception are also addressed.
In order to retain the basic characteristics of a textile curtain, several narrow modules were grouped in such a way that when pushed together, the curved shape of a textile is imitated.
The color scheme and composition of the individual elements in red, blue and yellow are based on Russian Constructivism. Not only the gridded structure of the curtain, but also the theme of the glass curtain underlined this design.
Thanks to the modern redesign of stained glass, Velum represents an alternative to the classic church window look.
