Eye of Day

Dance is a way of expression. A story, an idea, an emotion meets the audience through the rhythmic movements of the dancer.
Dance sets free the energy.
Hula Dance, born on the Hawaiian Islands, was seen as a permanent form of art to share cultural stories and passing them down from generation to generation. There are many different hand gestures a Hula dancer uses when telling these stories.
Eye of Day is a lighting based on sequential hand gestures that Hula dancers use to express the sun during a performance. These hand gestures are expressed by three different U-plates which are brought together on a wooden base as they tell a meaning together and in order. The pink, yellow and white tones that we observe in the sky from the moment the sun rises until it is in the zenith can also be observed when light of the lamp meets with copper, brass and stainless steel. The light can be dimmed individually which points to the everchanging expression of the sun during a day. Thus the user can create his/her own light experience.
